Respect! DanceFest Weekly Honoring Gary "Gee-One" Kendell
In our final episode leading up to the 28th Annual San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest, we welcome special guest James Fraser for a heartfelt conversation celebrating the life, legacy, and lasting influence of Gary Kendell, affectionately known as “Gee-One.”
An original founding member, mentor, and dancer of the legendary Jabbawockeez, Gary was a pioneering force in Northern California's hip-hop dance community. Known as the crew's “Yoda” and big brother, he inspired generations of dancers through his knowledge, leadership, musicality, and deep love for hip-hop culture.
As an accomplished b-boy, gifted instructor, and global ambassador of hip-hop, Gary shared more than movement. He taught the importance of connection, self-expression, respect, and community. His greatest legacy lives on through the countless dancers he mentored, encouraged, and empowered to believe in themselves.
During this special episode, James Fraser helps us honor the man behind the movement and reflect on the impact Gary made on the culture and the people fortunate enough to know him.
On Sunday, following the afternoon DanceFest performance, James will accept a special award on Gary's behalf during the after-party celebration.
Join us as we celebrate Gee-One's life, honor his contributions, and remember a true pioneer whose spirit will forever live on through hip-hop dance.
Once a teacher, always a mentor. Forever part of the culture. Long live Gee-One.
