Gary Kendell, known as “Gee-One,” was an original founding member, mentor, and dancer of the legendary Jabbawockeez, and a pioneering force in Northern California’s hip-hop dance community. Affectionately known as the crew’s “Yoda” and big brother, Gary was deeply respected for his knowledge, leadership, and unwavering love for the culture.

An accomplished b-boy and gifted instructor, Gary was renowned for his musicality, fluidity, and powerful movement. As a true ambassador of hip-hop, he taught and performed around the world, sharing not only his artistry but also the values at the heart of the culture: connection, self-expression, respect, and community.

Gary’s greatest legacy lives on in the countless dancers he inspired and mentored. With his warmth, generosity, and belief in others, he helped people discover their own power and embrace who they were. His influence continues to move through the dancers, artists, and community he touched, and his spirit remains an enduring part of hip-hop dance history.

Mona Baroudi and Patrick Whitgrove

Mona Baroudi and Patrick Whitgrove have been passionate supporters of the San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest for over a decade. Mona is formerly SFIHHDF’s Public Relations manager and continues to lend her time and guidance to support the DanceFest’s community and legacy. Mona and Patrick have also been significant contributors to the DanceFest’s Angel Program, underwriting tickets for children and families who would not otherwise be able to attend. In Mona’s words:

“I've had the privilege of working with, and now supporting, SFIHHDF for many years, and I'm always wowed by the artistry of the dancers who travel to San Francisco from all over the globe. And—the festival is just so much fun! SFIHHDF is a beautiful reminder that hip hop is rooted in history while continuing to evolve, with the artists always at the center.”

Lisa Doran has been a beloved member of the DanceFest family for many years and is currently the Treasurer of Micaya Presents. Whether Lisa is volunteering at events, contributing as a program donor, or shining onstage at one of Micaya’s performance workshops, Lisa brings joy wherever she goes. When describing what the DanceFest means to her, Lisa says: “I started taking Micaya’s dance classes many years ago and learned about DanceFest from her. I still remember that first show and screaming myself hoarse cheering on the amazing performers because I was so moved by the artistry, the creativity, the LIFE that I was seeing on that stage. Every year brings me new inspiration and a renewed sense of the real community this show builds with dancers from all around the world.”
